Residence Accommodation (On Campus)

NMMU provides comfortable on campus accommodation options. These include the residences on the Summerstrand North and South Campus, Second Avenue, and George Campuses and the two Student Villages, one opposite the north campus and the other, a Post Graduate Student Village on the Summerstrand South Campus which consists of self catering units. First year students share rooms throughout residences. For more information go to the on-campus accommodation page.

As accommodation is limited, early application is essential via the Office for International Education. Kindly request the application form if you have not received it in your acceptance package from international@nmmu.ac.za.

University Managed Accommodation (Off Campus)

Annie’s Cove - Summerstrand

NMMU’s most prominent off campus facility is Annie’s Cove Complex with 44 two bedroomed units and 18 sharing rooms. Units are all fully furnished and self catering, offering shared bathrooms, kitchenettes and a lavish pool area. Students purchase their own electricity (called pre-paid) and even though internet access is available students are required to pay for access and usage.

Annie’s offers a safe and secure learning environment with exposure to a diverse selection of cultures. Security services operate from 18:00 to 06:00 daily and cleaning services, once a week. The off campus manager is available on site during office hours and in the event of emergencies.

Leased Accommodation

Off Campus Accommodation is located within close proximity to the university in the areas surrounding NMMU, being Summerstrand and Humewood.

The Off Campus Housing Office accredits accommodation that is within walking distance to either the campus or available public transport. The range of flats, apartments and townhouses all comply with the minimum standard as indicated by the University.

Even though properties are accredited by the Off Campus Housing Office, the University holds no legal jurisdiction and students take up lease agreements in their own capacity.

Students will be required to stay in booked accommodation for a minimum of 6 months and it is extremely important to complete the application form thoroughly. In the event of students choosing to stay in properties that are not accredited, NMMU will not be held liable. Study Abroad and Exchange Student are allowed to stay in accredited accommodation only.

It is advisable that you secure accommodation prior to departure and payment of deposits will ensure all bookings are made timely.
